Worked on it from about 10 this morning until 7 tonight. Got the engine back together and in the frame. The cylinders and head are back on. All that's left is getting the coils, carburetors, airbox and all the body parts back on. Put some oil in it and I'll be riding it tomorrow.

Whew, I'm beat.

Won't be long until you can do this in the dark.

I agree that our fearless administrator could (and should) write at least an article on Nighthawk tricks and send it to magazine and tech bulletin publishers...

By the way, I saw this stuff firsthand and I am almost sure I would have missed it!

I really hope this is the last time I do any of this. At least on this bike. I may have a lead on a decent 70's Honda 750 for $150.



Didn't seem all that hot here, but it was humid as all getout.

Cranked her up today. Has an oil leak on the bottom somewhere. I think it may be the oil pan. I'll have to pull the exhaust again and see if I can find it. Throttle seemed a little sluggish. May pull the valve cover and recheck the timing also. Liitle bit of cam chain rattle which is normal. But no more knocking.

None of this is happening today tho.

Well, since getting the engine back together and running again, I've put about 120 miles or so on it. I know that's not much, but when internal engine parts have seen the light of day, I like to take it kinda slow getting back up to speed.

A couple of weeks ago it gave me a little scare. It decided to start shifting kind of erratically. Sometimes it would shift to second and not go any higher. Next time, it might go to fourth and stop. After removing the clutch master and slave and giving them a thorough cleaning, It's shifted like butter ever since.

I've been doing just short 10 or 20 miles runs staying fairly close to home. Today I did my longest one. Did about 40 miles. So far it runs really nice and other than the shifting issue, it's been uneventful. Hopefully, we are on our way to a full recovery.
