Post 87 Shadow VT1100C Popping on Deceleration
Anybody have any experience with this? I admit, sometimes it's pretty cool sounding, but wondering if there's something that could be done to correct.....
When I've got the RPM's up on the bike, then let off, to coast / slow down, most of the time I'll get a single back-fire POP!!! Of course, if I pull the clutch in there's no popping.
It's almost like I've got some raw fuel that's built up in there and it's burning off when I decelerate. At night, sometimes you can see a small flame shoot out of the top (back cylinder) pipe.

There's some good info on that subject here.

and here

There seems to be a lot of posts there about the same issue, especially after adding aftermarket pipes.

Kmac have you changed the pipes and rejetted carbs. If so I thank you have to much fuel and its burn in the pipes. May have to do some work on the air box. If you have not changed them, the carbs need to be set up or you have the wrong plugs.Thats just my quess good luck.:bikeday:

Still have the original pipes and carbs on the bike. Kenny and I adjusted the pilot screws back in the fall, and it seems to have helped. I think.... been so long since I've been able to ride, I almost forget what it's like!!!! :cold

Come on SPRING!!!! :gaah

Check the exhaust bolts/nuts at the heads. Sounds like they are loose (air leak). My 04 Vulcan done that till I tighten them.
